Funeral services were held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church at Alton on Saturday morning, March 14, for the George P. Homan, aged 70, who passed away at Le Mars Hospital March 11, following surgery. Requiem High Mass was said by the pastor, Reverend Mgsr. Z. Reising. Burial was at St. Mary’s Cemetery under the direction of the Fisch Funeral Home.

Mr. Homan was born near Alton on October 20, 1893 and was a lifelong resident of this community, engaged in farming. His marriage to Josephine Arens took place April 13, 1920, at Alton. Survivors include the widow; three sons: Dale, at home; Lyle and Mila, both of Remsen and one daughter, Mrs. Don Pick, Remsen; five grandchildren: Harvey and Kim Marie Homan, Julie and Jeff Horman, all of Remsen, and Debbie Pick, Oyens; three brothers and two sisters: O.N. Homan, Milford; Roman Homan, Waterloo, Julius, Alton; Mrs. John Van Deelen, Minneato, Minnesota; and Mrs. Emma Fath, Alton.

A wake was held at the funeral home Thursday night, and at St. Mary’s Chapel Friday afternoon and evening, with hundreds of friends and relatives joining the family in their hour of sorrow.

Mr. Homan was preceded in death by his parents and one brother and one sister. Pallbearers were Francis and Walter Homan of Alton, Don Arens, Remsen, Ray Arens, Al Gengler and Joe Kinney, Le Mars.
