LIVED 67 YEARS IN ALTON VICINITY, RITES TODAY

Mrs. Louisa (John) Homan, pioneer resident here, died at her home Monday afternoon at 12:15. She has been in failing health since early in September but on September 8th enjoyed a family dinner on the event of her 90th birthday. Sunday evening her condition became suddenly worse and members of the family were notified.

Louisa Hoffman was born September 8, 1857 at Springbrook, Iowa. At the age of 11 she came with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles D. Hoffman, sisters and brothers to Le Mars. She was married February 22, 1881 to John Homan of St. Donatus, Iowa, and the couple settled on a farm south of Alton where they lived twelve years, then moved to Alton, where Mrs. Homan has resided for 54 years. Mr. Homan died August 4, 1928.

Eight children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Homan, one child named Rose having died in infancy. The surviving children are Joe H. Homan of Alton; Frank Homan of Milwaukee; Mrs. Joe Mousel, Le Mars; Ben D. Homan, Grand Forks, North Dakota; Charles Homan of Slayton, Minnesota; Hilda and Sylvia at home.

Also surviving are four brothers, Dennis and John Hoffman of Le Mars; Charles J. Hoffman of Dubuque and Arthur Hoffman, living in California.

Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 9:30 in St. Mary’s Church, Very Reverend J.M. Neppel officiating. All the children and their families, besides many other relatives and friends are expected for the services.

Mrs. Homan was a member of the Rosary Society of St. Mary’s Church. She was a devoted mother and kind neighbor and loved by all who knew her.
