Geert Hollinga former barber, dies Tuesday

Geert Jan Hollinga died at the Grossmann hospital here on Tuesday morning, October 27th.

Funeral services will be held Friday, at 1:30 p.m. in the Van Etten Funeral Home with Reverend H. Colenbrander presiding.

Mr. Hollinga was born on October 2, 1888, in the Netherlands. On December 1, 1911, he was married to Grada Jalink. In 1920, Hollinga came to the United States. He was followed by his family in 1921.

A barber for 57 years, Hollinga began his work in the Netherlands at the age of 14. He served as editor of DeVolksvriend between 1939 and 1943.

Survivors include two children, Mrs. E. E. Miller (Jennie) of Shino, California, Lambert of Orange City; seven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Also surviving are two brothers and two sisters, residing in the Netherlands.

Friends are being invited between the hours of 2 and 5 p.m. and 7 to 9:30 p.m. on Thursday afternoon and evening at the Van Etten Funeral Home.
