Hawarden Independent of August13, 1908.

Mrs. John Everhart died at her home on the North Side Monday morning, Aug. 10, from heart failure, at the advanced age of 75 years. She was born in Tuscarars county, 0H., May 9th, 1833. On Sept. 16, 1852, she was united in marriage to John Everhart, with whom she lived almost 50 years. With her husband she came to Sioux county in its pioneer days, first locating near Maurice, and later coining to this city to spend the declining years. From surviving relatives we learn that she was a near relative of the noted frontiersman , Kit Carson.

The funeral service was conducted by the Rev. C. M. Westlake at the home on the North side, at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon. She lived for many years a consistent Christian life and death came as last as a smiling friend to summon her from labor to a heavenly reward. She united with the Methodist Episcopal Church at the age of 13.

All her relations in the home and in the church were marked by a godly walk, a chaste conversation, and untiring, unselfish effort for the well- being of others. The spirit of worship prevaded her life, like an ever present atmosphere, It was her will and desire and very great pleasure, to have family worship in her sick chamber. She was highly gratified, and greatly profited by, her pastor's presence and prayers during her illness, she not unfrequently uniting with him in prayer. Faithful and devoted as a wife, loving, tender and wisely helpful as a mother, she was none the less faithful, devoted and helpful to her church. "Her name is as ointment poured forth and many rise up to call her blessed." Husband, daughters and sons alike are blessed in the rich moral heritage she has bequeathed to them, in the sweet memories they cherish of her, saintly spirit, gracious demeanor untiring beneficence and devotion to God and duty, in all the silent heroism of the home; "Blessed are the dead which lie in the Lord; they rest from their labor and their works do follow them.

Note: See the obit of her husband John Everhart 1825-1914 for more family details and that her maiden name was Catherine Ann Corson.
