Richard Hofstra, 64, died unexpectedly at his Doon farm home Sunday, November 27, 1983

Mr. Hofstra was born May 24, 1919, in George, Iowa. He married Anna Dirks July 2, 1941 at Pender, Nebraska. They farmed in the Doon area until 1963 when he moved to Ohio and Kentucky and raced harness horses. They returned to Doon in 1977 where they continued to race harness horses at county fairs. He also worked at Rock Rapids, Iowa, Ford Dealership.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Roger, of Sheldon, Iowa; two daughters: Mrs. Barry (Janice) Iwen, Rock Rapids, and Mrs. Paul (Deborah) Van Briesen, George, Iowa, his mother, Mrs. Francis Hofstra, Lyon Manor Care Center in Rock Rapids; five grandchildren; a great-grandchild; two brothers: Dick Hofstra, Rock Rapids and Pete Hofstra, Doon; and a sister, Mrs. Ervin (Jeanette) Laackmann, Doon.

Services were at 11 A.M. on Wednesday in the First Congregational Church in Doon, with burial in the Hillside Cemetery in Doon.
