Mrs. Muriel Roskam, age 79, of Sheldon, formerly of Hospers, passed away on Saturday, June 3, 2017, at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

There will be a funeral service on Tuesday, June 6, at 1:00pm, at the First Presbyterian Church in Hospers. The Rev. Dr. Brian Janssen will officiate. Interment will follow the service at the Hospers Cemetery. Visitation will be after 5:00pm on Monday, with the family present from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the CHURCH.

Arrangements are with the Oolman Funeral Home in Hospers.

Muriel June was born on February 26, 1938, at Ireton, the daughter of John and Frances (Popma) Schuller. She was raised on a farm near Ireton.

On April 6, 1957, she married Cornie “Casey” Roskam at Ireton. After a short time in Sioux City, they made their home in Hospers, where she was a homemaker. Casey passed away on March 13, 1996, in Storm Lake, after more than 39 years of marriage.

In 2010, Muriel moved to Sheldon.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

In earlier years, she was a pitcher at church softball games. She enjoyed having coffee with her Wednesday group, fixing puzzles, watching sports on television and games in which her grandchildren played, and spending time with her family and a special friend, John Rus.

Survivors include her son and his wife, Arlin and Laura Roskam, of Sioux Center; three daughters, Rhonda and her husband Rick Van Roekel, of Sheldon; Tammy, and her husband, Dan Hatting, of Sioux Falls; and Nancy Roskam and Chad Van Beek, of Spirit Lake; eight grandchildren, Chad (Mandi) Roskam, Amy (Kevin) Summers, Jason (Whitney) Roskam, Jeremy Van Roekel, Eric (Sara) Van Roekel, Christopher Hatting, Jessica Hatting, and Tanner Kroon; five great-grandchildren, Kailyn and Brinley Roskam, Aaron and Blake Summers, and Bria Van Roekel; and a sister, Shirley Van Iperen, of the Iowa Great Lakes area.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Andrew Roskam; four sisters, Vera, Leona, Darlene, and Marie; and two brothers, Wayne and Laurence.

Memorials may be directed to the church.
