John Conrad was born on June 6, 1936, in Springfield, Illinois. He became the son of John H. “Jack” and Edna (Beckett) Kaericher, at the age of two months.

He grew up in Decatur, Illinois, graduating from Decatur High School in 1954. After high school, he attended Miliken University, where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1959. In 1963, he completed his formal education with a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Iowa. For the next forty-two years, he was a member of the Art faculty at Northwestern College in Orange City, where he dedicated his life to serving the students.

On June 8, 1990, he married Bonnie Jo Lubach at the Central Reformed Church in Sioux Center. Several years later, they were blessed to be considered “Iowa” grandparents to Isabel and Truman Arteche.

John was a member of the American Reformed Church. He also owned his art studio in Orange City from 1979 to 2013 and spent his spare time there etching, engraving, printing, drawing, and painting. John’s quick wit was hard to match and even when facing tough health situations, his humor was shared as he persevered.

Survivors include his wife of more than 26 years; “Beckett” and “Kaericher” cousins; Bonnie’s siblings, Bill and Ruth Lubach, of Pella; Bruce and Laura Lubach, of Glendale, Arizona; and Barb Lubach, of Denver, Colorado; nieces, nephews, and special family friends, Eric, Mary, Isabel and Truman Arteche, of Desert Hot Springs, California.

Memorials may be directed to the John Kaericher Art Teaching Scholarship at Northwestern College or the Orange City Area Health System Home Health and Hospice.
