RTIRED HAWARDEN BUSINESS MAN DIES; LAST RITES TODAY

Funeral services for Oliver E. Hoflund, 85, retired Hawarden business man who died Monday following a long illness, will be this afternoon (Thursday) at 2 o’clock at the First Methodist Church.

Reverend Chester Custer will officiate and interment will be at Grace Hill Cemetery under the direction of the Barnard Funeral Home.

Mr. Hoflund was born February 27, 1873, at Osca, Illinois. He married Minnie Mahler at Chicago on November 24, 1897. She died in 1938.

Mr. Hoflund came to Hawarden 50 years ago last March and went into the hardware business. He later sold his hardware business and became cashier at the former Hawarden State Bank. Then he established his own insurance business which he sold to the Gearhart Agency upon retiring.

Mr. Hoflund was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Hawarden and was active in church work. He served as a member of the official board of the Methodist Church and taught Sunday School, assisting in many ways with religious work when he was able.

He was preceded in death by a sister and a brother as well as his wife and parents.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Warren Gregg of Hawarden and Mrs. Jack Warrick of Meadow Grove, Nebraska; a sister, Mrs. W.S. Briggs of Washington; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
