Arthur Willis was born on May 1, 1915, at Alton, the son of Henry and Jacoba (Van Driel) Hofmeyer. As a small boy, his family moved to a farm near Doon and later to a farm near Carnes, which was his home for 46 years.

On February 18, 1938, he married Myrtle Douma in Alton, and they assumed operation of the family farm. In 1970, he retired from farming and they moved into Orange City, where he was employed at the Diamond Vogel Paint Company.

He retired completely in 1979, because of poor health. Mr. & Mrs. Hofmeyer enjoyed staying in their trailer at Lake Okoboji for eight summers. She passed away on August 2, 1996, in Sioux City, after more than 58 years of marriage.

In 1997, he became a resident of the Paullina Care Center, and he transferred to the Heritage House Nursing Home in Orange City in 1998. Later, he moved to the Park View Cottage in Orange City, where he resided until June of 2002, when he transferred to the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull.

Art was a longtime member of the Calvary Christian Reformed Church, where he served on the consistory as a deacon and also on several committees. He was a patient husband and generous father and grandfather. He enjoyed his years on the farm and was an avid fisherman. He liked machines and tools and was a creative genius in his workshop. If he couldn't repair something, he would make a new one.

Survivors include his son, Ken Hofmeyer, of Orange City and Okoboji; a daughter, Judy Prins, of Loveland Colorado; four grandchildren, Laura, and her husband, Tony Spandrio, of Loveland; Brenda Prins, of Aurora, Colorado; Randy Prins, and his wife, Paula, of Jay, Oklahoma; and Pam, and her husband, Mike Moulder, of Muskegon, Michigan; four great-grandchildren, Todd Prins, and his wife, Alisha, of Jay; Missy Prins, and her fiancé, Joe, of Jay; and Eric and Anna Parrish, of Loveland; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Moon, of Redlands, California.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother and his wife, John and Margie Hofmeyer; a sister-in-law and her husband, Lois and Dick Barnes; and a brother-in-law, Cyril Douma.

Memorials will be directed to the Pleasant Acres Care Center.
