Services held for Henry Hofmeyer

Funeral services for Henry Hofmeyer, who would have been 85 on October 28, were held on Thursday, October 26, at 10:30 A.M. in the First Christian Reformed Church. The Reverend Tjapkes officiated and burial was made in the West Lawn Cemetery under the direction of the Van Etten Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were nephews, Joe Reinders, Gary Reinders, John G. Reinders, Ted De Jong, John J. Hofmeyer and Harvey Hofmeyer.

Mr. Hofmeyer died October 24 of a heart attack at the Nursing Wing of the Sioux Center Hospital.

He was born near Alton on October 28, 1882. He was married to Coba Van Driel on July 29, 1905, and he lived in the Alton and Orange City vicinity most of his life, except for a few years when they farmed near Doon, Iowa.

They moved from the farm to Orange City in 1938.

For the past two years they have made their home in the wing of the Sioux Center Hospital.

Survivors include the widow, two sons, John and Art, both of Orange City, five grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

He was the last member of the Gerrit John and Gerritdina (Nyenhuis) Hofmeyer family to pass on. Preceding him in death were two brothers, Gerrit and John, and three sisters, Mrs. John Reinders, Mrs. Gerrit Reinders, and Mrs. Charles De Boer.

Attending the funeral from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Ed Van Driel of Mora, Minnesota, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Van Driel of Yankton, South Dakota, Mrs. Cornie Van Driel of Larchwood, Iowa, Mrs. Charles De Vries of Beaver Creek, Minnesota, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Engeltjes of Primghar, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Ted De Jong and Mr. and Mrs. C.S. Ekdom of Ireton, Iowa.
