Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Steichen Hoffman, 71, who died in the Sacred Heart Hospital, Le Mars, November 3, were held November 6th at the St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Hospers. Rt. Reverend Msgr. Theobold officiated at the Requiem High Mass and burial was in the parish cemetery.

Mary Henrecy was born June 1, 1893, at Hastings, Nebraska. She was married May 20, 1913, to Nick Steichen and the couple lived on a farm near Alton until 1941, when they moved to Remsen. Mr. Steichen died in June 1954.

She was married December 1, 1956, to John Hoffman of Hospers, where they since made their home. She was a member of the Christian Mothers Conference, Women’s Catholic Order of Foresters and the Church Guild.

Survivors include her husband; three sons, Arnold Steichen of Remsen; Arthur Steichen, Cedar Rapids; Francis Steichen, San Diego, California; seven daughters, Mrs. Bertha Thill, Remsen; Mrs. Helen Glassmaker, Cleghorn; Mrs. Rosemary Lux, Coon Rapids; Mrs. Betty Coen, Denver, Colorado; Mrs. Marian Utesch, Oyens; Mrs. Patty Reinert, Van Meter; six stepchildren, Mrs. Sophia Determan, Le Mars; Mrs. Gertrude Biever, Alton; Alphonse Steichen, Maurice; Matthew Steichen, Cedar Rapids; Leo Steichen and Mrs. Clarence Jarding, both of Emery, South Dakota; 54 grandchildren, 24 (step) grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are 6 sisters: Mrs. Elizabeth Loewen, Hospers; Mrs. Barbara Johnson, Chicago; Mrs. Cecelia Lubbers, Mrs. Leon Krchnavy, Mrs. Blanch Klein, all of Gregory, South Dakota, and Mrs. Helen Lubbers, Burke, South Dakota; 3 brothers, Alphonse, Arnold and Eugene Henrecy, all of Gregory, South Dakota.

Six grandsons were pallbearers: Gary and Dale Steichen, John Coco, Alan Lux, Tom Glassmaker, and David Utesch.

All the children and stepchildren were able to attend the funeral except Francis Steichen of San Diego, California.
