John Hoffman, 78, Hospers, died April 27 in Hospers after an apparent heart attack.

Services were at 10:30 A.M. April 30 at St. Anthony Catholic Church. The Reverend Eugene Ceperly officiated. Burial was in the parish cemetery under the direction of the Fisch Funeral Home of Remsen. The Rosary was recited at St. Anthony’s Parish Hall in Hospers on April 29.

Mr. Hoffman was born September 24, 1897, in eastern Iowa. He married Mary Henricy December 1, 1956, at Remsen. Mrs. Hoffman died November 3, 1964. Mr. Hoffman, who had lived in Hospers since 1906, was a carpenter.

Survivors include a brother, Al of Hospers; two sisters, Mrs. Emma Blocker of Bancroft, and Mrs. Rose Becker of Hospers; six step-sons, Alphonse Steichen of Maurice, Matthew and Arthur Steichen, both of Cedar Rapids, Leo Steichen of Rapid City, South Dakota, Arnold Strichen of Remsen, and Francis Steichen of San Diego, California; seven step-daughters, Mrs. Edmund (Bertha) Thill of Remsen, Mrs. Ray (Helen) Glassmaker of Cleghorn, Mrs. Rosemary Lux and Mrs. Joan Zomora, both of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Wally (Betty) Crossman of Denver, Colorado, Mrs. Harold (Marian) Utesch of Oyens, and Mrs. Leonard (Patty) Reinert of Indianola; and several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
