From the Rock Valley Bee, September 14, 1923:

HENRY MARTIN BROUWER

Henry Martin Brouwer died at his home in Rock Valley Sunday evening after an illness of over a week with appendicitis. An operation was performed Sunday morning in hopes that his life might be saved.

The deceased was a son of Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Brouwer. He was born in Lyon County April 21, 1910, and had attained the age of thirteen years, four months and eighteen days. Nearly all his life was spent in this vicinity. He is survived by his parents, brothers and sisters. [They] have the sympathy of friends in their sorrow.

Funeral services were held at the First Reformed church in Rock Valley Wednesday afternoon, and the remains were taken to Valley View Cemetery.

From the Alton Democrat, September 15, 1923, Rock Valley news:

The 14 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Wiebe Brouwer underwent an operation for appendicitis one day last week, but the operation was not performed soon enough and last Sunday he died. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon, Rev. H. Colenbrander officiating. Burial occurred in Valley View cemetery. They have the sympathy of friends in their hour of sadness.
