John Schuurman of Doon dies; services Tuesday

Funeral services for John Schuurman, 80. longtime resident of the Doon area, who died Friday at the Sioux Center nursing home after a brief illness, were at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Doon Reformed church. Rev. Paul Trompen officiated; Burial was in Richland cemetery, under direction of the Vander Ploeg funeral home of Sioux Center.
Mr. Schuurman was born May 20, 1879, in The Netherlands. He came to the United States at the age of 12 with his patents. He married Hendrika Vander Vliet November 27, 1901. He was a retired farmer.

Survivors include the widow, six daughters, Mrs. Marie Brower, Mrs. Ken Ver Beek. Mrs. Walter Pap and Mrs. Jake Mellema, all of Rock Rapids, Mrs. Marinus Bobeldyk of Holland, Mich., and Mrs. Henry De.Bruin living in Washington and two sons, Arnold of Larchwood and John of Rock Rapids.
