LEONARD HODAPP CALLED BY DEATH

Leonard Hodapp, early Granville resident, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Peter Klein on February 27, at the age of 77 years.

Born at Baden, Germany on October 3, 1861, he came to the United States at the age of 18. He spent several years at Freeport, Illinois, then returning to Germany where he was married on February 15, 1890 to Stephana Burger and brought his wife to the Granville community. The greater part of his life he farmed near Granville.

Surviving are three daughters and one son, namely Miss Emma of Pocahontas, Mrs. Peter Klein, Otto Hodapp and Mrs. John Ahlers, all of Granville; two brothers, Barney and Leo Hodapp of Sibley; two sisters, Miss Frances Hodapp of Olivia, Minnesota and Mrs. Sophia Hund of Baden, Germany. He was preceded in death by his wife, two daughters Mrs. Sophia Entringer and Ida, and one son, Edward. Two brothers preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held at St. Joseph’s Church, Granville, on March 1 with interment in the church Cemetery. Reverend J.A. Gerleman was in charge of the services and pallbearers were Bert Schnurr, William Nilehel, George Schmidt, Joe Schumacher, Mike Perlot and Herman Ahlers. Many were present to pay tribute to the memory of this respected pioneer, who was ever a devoted husband and father and a kind neighbor.
