Nicholas Frank Hines passed away at 10:15 a.m., February 12, 1946, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. T.N. Richards, of Sioux City. Mr. Hines was in his usual health until Friday evening, February 8, when he suffered a stroke from which he failed to recover.

He was born in Port Byron county, Illinois, on October 15, 1859, and later moved with his parents to a farm near Lone Tree, Iowa. In 1863, he homesteaded in Brule County in South Dakota. He was married October 30, 1887, to Martha Williamson, to which union six children were born. Two died in infancy, and Mrs. Stella Anderson passed away in 1935.

The family lived in Brule County until 1906, when they moved on a farm south of Hawarden. In 1917, they moved into Hawarden and have resided there ever since. In October, 1945, they went to Sioux City to spend the winter with their daughter, Mrs. T.N. Richards. He joined the Baptist Church on October 4, 1914.

He is survived by his widow, Martha, and two daughters: Mrs. Ick Parker of Los Angeles, California, and Mrs. T.N. Richards of Sioux City; and one son, Phil Hines, of Dell Rapids, South Dakota. Nineteen grandchildren and eight great- grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services were held Monday at the Baptist church in Hawarden at 2:00 o'clock. Reverend J.A. Flaming conducted the services, with Reverend Estel Hines, a grandson of the deceased, assisting.
