Funeral services for Sjoerd P. De Jong, 88, a Worthington, Minn., resident who died Wednesday
were held Saturday at the Newkirk Reformed church. Mr. De Jong farmed in the Newkirk community before he retired in 1943, when he moved to Worthington.

He was born December 28, 1874 at a farm homestead near Newkirk. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter De Jong, early day settlers of Sioux county. He married Emma Bomgaars February 12, 1903. He was a deacon for many years and later an elder of the Reformed church at Newkirk. He also served as a deacon and elder of the Consistory of the American Reformed church at Worthington. Survivors besides the widow are a son, Peter S. of Culver City, Calif.; a foster daughter, Mrs. Winfield Bailey of Boulder City, Colo.; a brother, Conrad of Hospers; three sisters, Mrs. Kate Harmelink of Newkirk, Mrs. Stena Beyer of Sioux Center, and Mrs. Albert Beltman of Sheldon, three grandchildren, and two greatgrandchildren.
