Simon Brunskill dies on Tueday moning.
In Hospital a couple of weeks, but serious condition not generally known.
All Hawarden was greatly shocked Tuesday morning when word was received here that Simon Burnskill one of the oldest and best know residents of this community had passed away at St. Jospeh’s hospital in Sioux City. He had been ailing for a couple of months and went to the hospital a short time ago for treatment, though few of his friends realized that his condition was so critical.

The body was brought home Tuesday evening and funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church of which he was an adherent and attendant, at 2:30 this afternoon. Rev. A. M. McIntosh pastor of the church preaching the funeral sermon . A large concourse of friends attended the services to pay their last tribute of respect to the departed.

Simon Brunskill was born at Darlington WI Jan 16, 1847. He moved to Anamosa IA when a young man and came to Le Mars when that place was but a small village. In 1886 he cam to Hawarden and for 32 years has made his home here. He was untied in marriage with Miss Marion Elizabeth Diamond at LeMars Jul 4, 1878. Four children were born to this union, three of whom are still living.

Those living are Wm. E. Brunskill and Mrs. J. H. C. Schoeneman of Hawarden and George Brunskill of Murdo SD. Florence Mabel died in 1887. He is also survived by two brothers, George of LeMars and John of Darlington WI.

In the early days he had great faith in the future land values of this section and made investments which later proved the wisdom of his keen foresight. He was also a successful stockman and was interested in various times in a number of business enterprises in Hawarden. His business judgement always had great weight with his associates and he was held in high regard by all who knew him. The bereaved wife and children have the sympathy of the community in their hour of sorrow.
