Last Rites Held at First Church for Carl Wissink

Funeral services for Carl Wissink, age 89, were held Friday, May 25, at the First Reformed church with Rev. Henry Colenbrander in charge. Carl Wissink was born in Zutphen, The Netherlands, on February 14, 1867. At the age of 17, came to this country and made his home in Alton. He married Mina Scholten of Alton. Six children were born to them, four dying in infancy.
Surviving are his sons, Dr. Gerrit Wissink, Dean of State Teacher's college Mankato, Minn., and the Rev. Charles Wissink, pastor of the First Reformed church, Milwaukee, Wisc. Mrs. Wissink preceded her husband in death six years ago.
Mr. Wissink was an active member of the Reformed church of Alton, serving as deacon, elder and Sunday School superintendent The family moved to Orange City some 30 years ago.
Mr. Wissink lived at the Pioneer Home for about four years, but had been a patient at the VerDoorn Nursing Home at Ashton for the past seven months. On Monday, May 21, he suffered a heart attack. He had another attack the following day and died that evening. Burial was made in the Alton cemetery. Pallbearers were six nephews, Bernard Scholten, Gerhard Scholten, Simon Scholten, Gerrit Scholten, Leonard Scholten and Dr. William K. Scholten.
