From the Rock Valley Bee, November 8, 1935:

PIONEER RESIDENT HAS PASSED AWAY

Mrs. Mary Sandschulte passed away in her home in Rock Valley last Wednesday evening, following a lingering illness. Mrs. Sandschulte had been a resident of Rock Valley for the past fifty-five years, coming here with her husband in 1880. Mr. Sandschulte preceded her in death February 21, 1922.

Mrs. Sandschulte was a woman who was loved and respected by all who knew her and during her long residence here she was well known. The beautiful floral tributes and large attendance at the funeral services were evidence, if any were needed, of the high esteem in which she was held.

Mary Tarp was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, April 18, 1858 and passed from this life October 30, 1935, aged seventy-seven years, six months and twelve days. In her early life her parents moved to St. Joseph, Tenn., where her early life was spent and she grew to womanhood. She was united in marriage with Bernard Sandschulte, October 30, 1877. Three years later they moved to Rock Valley where Mrs. Sanschulte has since resided.

Besides other relatives, she is survived by six daughters, Elizabeth, Dorothy, Josephine, Evelyn and Ann, all of Rock Valley, and Mrs. W. J. Browne, of Wadena, Minn., and three sons, H. J. Sandschulte of Onawa, Iowa, L. F. Sandschulte of South Gate, Calif., and L. C. Sandschulte of Le Mars, Iowa. One son preceded her in death. She also leaves eleven grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday morning in St. Mary's Catholic church in Rock Valley, of which she was a faithful member, conducted by Rev. A. J. Foerster, and the remains were taken to St. Mary's cemetery. The bereaved family have the sincere sympathy of many friends.

Mrs. Sandschulte was born at Cincinnati, Ohio, but has been a resident of Sioux County for 55 years. She was 77 years of age at the time of her passing. She leaves to mourn her passing her children, Elizabeth and Dora at home, Mrs. Frances Brown of Montevideo, Minnesota, Henry of Onawa, Iowa, Josephine and Evelyn at home, Anne of Sioux City, Lagora of Le Mars, and Leo of California. A similar obituary was also published in the Alton Democrat. It adds that she suffered a paralytic stroke on July 27, 1935; gives her son Leo's residence as Los Angeles, California; and states that her son Lagorri lives in Sioux City.

Her husband seems to have been generally known as Barney, and this is the name given in his obituary (posted separately).
