Oepke De Vries rites Saturday at Reformed church

Funeral services were held last Saturday afternoon for Oepke De Vries, long-time resident of Rock Valley. Mr. De Vries was born at Franneker in The Netherlands September 16, 1869, and died at Sheldon Municipal hospital December 23, at the age of 83.

Coming to the United States at the age of eleven with his mother and brothers and sisters, he made his home at Sioux Center, after moving to the Carmel community and finally to Rock Valley which had been his home for nearly 30 years.

For the past two years he had made his home at the Holland Home for the Aged in Sheldon. Mr. De Vries was married to Bertha Pluimer, Nov. 29, 1893; thus a long married life of 65 years has come to a close.

He is survived by his wife who for the past seven years has been a patient at Bethesda Sanitarium in Denver, Colo., also by five daughters and three sons; Kate, Mrs. Tony Van Essen of Fairview, S. D.; Johanna, Mrs. Gerrit Niemeyer of Rock Valley; Maggie, Mrs. William Ter Meer of Inwood; Gerb, of Inwood; Effie, Mrs. Ring Wichers of Buena Park, Calif.; Klaus, of Artesia, Calif.; Nellie, Mrs. William Van de Wetering of Roswell, S. D. and William, of Brainerd, Minn.
Also 25 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren and three great, great grandchildren.

Rev. S. T. Cammenga of the Protestant Reformed church of Rock Valley assisted at funeral services conducted here by Rev. A. A. Dykstra, pastor of the First Reformed church of Rock Valley of which the deceased was a member.

Arrangements were by the Cooperative Burial association under direction of William De Bruin. Interment was made at Valley View cemetery.
