From the Rock Valley Bee, February 23, 1923:

BARNEY SANDSCHULTE PASSED AWAY TUESDAY

Barney Sandschulte, a well known resident of Rock Valley for the past forty years, died at his home here, Tuesday noon, February 20, from brights disease from which he had been suffering for some time.

The subject of this sketch was born at Millhousen, Indiana, August 13, 1853, and had attained the age of sixty-nine years, six months and seven days. When he was eighteen years old, he went to Loretto, Tenn., where he spent a few years of his life. He was married almost forty-three years ago to Mary Tarp at Loretto, Tenn. He came to Sioux County in 1883, accompanied by his brother-in-law, J. B. Foppe. Two or three months later their families came to join them. Mr. Sandschulte has made his home in Rock Valley since that time.

Soon after arriving here, Mr. Sandschulte accepted a position on the section with the Milwaukee Railway company. He was soon made section foreman here, and he held this position until about six months ago, when on account of failing health, he was forced to retire.

Mr. Sandschulte was a man who was kind and generous to his family; he was a good neighbor and citizen, and a man who was highly esteemed by all who knew him.

Besides his brothers and sisters, he leaves to mourn, his wife and nine children: Mrs. Wm. Browne, of Wadena, Minn., Elizabeth, Dora, Josephine, Evaline, of Rock Valley, and Ann, who lives in California; Harry, Leo and Ligora, of Rock Valley. He leaves two brothers and two sisters. They are: William, of Loretto, Tenn. and Joseph, of Bancroft, Iowa, and Mrs. Sullentrop, of St. Louis, Mo., and Mrs. S. Dischler, for many years a resident of Rock Valley, but who for the past few months has been visiting at different places; she is at present at Loretto, Tenn., but is expected to arrive in Rock Valley in time for the funeral.

Funeral services will be held this Friday forenoon, beginning at 9:30 at St. Mary's Church in Rock Valley, of which the deceased was a faithful member. The bereaved family have the sympathy of many friends in their great sorrow.
