Duane E. Heidbrink, 81, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at The Abbey of Le Mars.

Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 28, 2011, at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home of Le Mars. Rev. Timothy Geitz of Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars will officiate. Burial will follow at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, rural Ireton, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 27, 2011, at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home. The family will be present 3-5 p.m., with a prayer service scheduled at 4 p.m. Visitation will resume at 9:00 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home.

Duane Earl Heidbrink was born February 18, 1930, in Le Mars, the son of Louis Henry and Marguerite Henrietta (Kading) Heidbrink. He attended country school near his home in Neptune, Iowa. Following his education, Duane lived with his parents and assisted them with farming. He was a hard worker and helped them with milking, raising chickens, and baling hay. Later in life he loved to interact with his nieces and nephews, playing sports and games. Duane's mother passed away in 1976. He remained on the farm with his father until Louis passed away in 1985. Duane moved to Plymouth Life in Le Mars, and in 2001 he moved to The Abbey of Le Mars. He was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hinton, Iowa, and later at Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars.

Duane will be lovingly remembered by his sisters, Delores Schultz of Rapid City, South Dakota, and Kay Freking and her husband, Harold of Le Mars; his sister-in-law, Janice Heidbrink of Le Mars; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two infant sisters; an infant brother; a brother, Wesley; and a brother-in-law, Dale Schultz.
