James E. Hastert, 78, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 20 at 11:00 A.M. at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton. Reverend James Tigges will officiate.

James was born May 5, 1920 at David City, Nebraska, the son of John and Mary (DeMuth) Hastert. He moved to the Alton area with his family in 1936. He served in the Army from 1941-1945 and then attended the Philadelphia Academy of Fine Art, and graduated from the College of Pudget Sound Fine Art. Most of his life was spent in artistic art in Philadelphia.

Survivors include a sister, Margaret (Mrs. Ralph) Doud of Grand Island, Nebraska; a brother, Donald and his wife Annette of Minnetonka, Minnesota, and a sister-in-law, Bernice (Mrs. Charles) Hastert of Alton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Harry and Charles.
