Mrs. Tryntje Rus Dies At Age 89

Mrs. Tryntje Rus, 89, of Rock Valley, died at the Valley Manor nursing home on Friday, November 28, following a long illness.

Funeral services were held Monday, December 1 at 10:00 a.m. at the Porter Funeral Home with the Rev. C. Hegman officiating. Mrs. John Schelling was the organist. Pallbearers were John Allen and Anthony John Schoneveld, Howard Van Beek, Marvin, Edward and John L. Rus. Burial was in Valley View Cemetery under the direction of Porter Funeral Home.

Tryntje was born December 13, 1879 in the Netherlands to Roelofje Van Benthem and John Driesen. She came to America and the Rock Valley area in 1913. She was preceded in death by three husbands.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Gerrit Van Beek of Hudson, S.D.; two sons, Everet John Schoneveld of Corona, Calif. and John Schoneveld of Ontario, Calif.; six stepsons, Leonard, Jake and John Rus of Corsica, S.D., Neal of Holland, Mich., Bert of Rock Valley, Marinus of Bellflower Calif.; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Martin Van Den Brink of Sioux Center; a sister, Mrs. Guys Blankenspoor of Rock Valley; 21 grandchildren and 55 great grandchildren.

Jacob Rus, 1867-1946 (obit posted separately) has most of the same survivors listed, but the obit gives his widow's name as Cornelia Lugtigheid Rus and says his first wife preceded him in death. The obit writer must have gotten the two wives' names mixed up, as it was Cornelia who preceded him in death, in 1925 (see her obit, posted separately). Cornelia is buried with him, Tryntje with her first(?) husband.

Iowa Marriage Records 1880-1937 on Ancestry.com has Jacob Rus marrying Mrs. Katie Van Beek in Orange City on November 1, 1926. Both are residents of Rock Valley. He is age 60 (hence born about 1866/67), a retired farmer, born Netherlands. She is age 48 (hence born about 1878/79), born Netherlands, parents John Driesen and Rolina Van Bentem, her third marriage. The submitter was unable to identify Mr. Van Beek.
