Mrs. John Harmsen passed away at her home in Rock Valley Monday afternoon. She had been in poor health for the past two years but her final illness was only of a week's duration.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 this afternoon at the home and at 2 o'clock at the Christian Reformed Church of which she was a member.

Mrs. Alice Harmsen, nee Alice Dykstra, was born in Holland October 5, 1865, and so would have reached the age of 75 years had she lived until October 5th this year.

She came to Iowa with her parents when only one year old.

She was united in marriage with John Harmsen and for 19 years they lived on a farm in Plato township but in 1920 they retired and moved to Rock Valley.

To this union were born 14 children, two of whom died in infancy. In 1918 Gertie, Mrs. Peter Klein, died of the flu and in 1931 Susie, Mrs. Will Koning, passed away. Mr. Harmsen died October 24, 1935.

The 10 children who survive her are Katie, Mrs. John Klein, Sioux Center; Mike of Rock Rapids; Walter of Sheldon; Lizzie, Mrs. Neal Klein of Sioux Center; Jake of Hawarden; Alice, Mrs. Will Bobeldyk of Sioux Falls; George of Chicago; Albert of Rock Valley; Grace, Mrs. Tom Van Holland of Rock Valley; Jennie, Mrs. Ernest Kemperma of Ireton. She also leaves 53 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
