Mildred Hansen, 92, of Alton, Iowa passed away Wednesday, September 24, 2008 at the Heritage House Nursing Home in Orange City, Iowa.

Mildred was born July 11, 1916 at Alton, Iowa, the daughter of Peter J. and Margaret (Kilburg) Hansen.

Mildred was raised in Alton and received her education at St, Mary’s Academy, in Alton, from which she graduated in 1934. She then attended Briar Cliff College in Sioux City, Iowa. In January 1937 she became secretary in Charles Hoeven’s law office. In July 1939, she began work as a bookkeeper with the Sioux Electric Cooperative Association, and continued employment with that firm in various accounting positions for 42 years, retiring in July, 1981. After her retirement she was active in volunteer work with St. Mary’s Church, Spalding Catholic School, and the Council of Catholic Women, serving in both Deanery and Diocesan offices. She had been a resident of Heritage House since December 7, 2005.

Funeral Service was 10:30 A.M., Monday, September 29, 2008 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton with Reverend Paul Eisele officiating. Burial was at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Alton. Fisch Funeral Home of Remsen, Iowa handled the arrangements.

Survivors include one brother, Peter J. and his wife Norma Hansen of Ruthven, Iowa; one niece, June and her husband Dana Halder of Atlantic, Iowa and their two sons, Chad and Kale; two nephews, Steve and his wife Debbie Hansen of Bentonville, Arizona, Alan and his wife Donita Hansen of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and their son, Brady; one niece-in-law, Marilyn Hansen of Laurens, Iowa and her two children, Laura Hansen and Greg and his wife Laura Sangwin and their two children, Lanie and Zane.

Mildred was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Church Guild and St. Mary Rosary Society. She enjoyed reading, playing cards and spending time with family and friends.

Casket bearers were Dana, Chad and Kale Halder, Steve and Dale Hansen, Bob Goliber.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; Stepmother, Anne Hansen; two brothers, Reverend Karl Hansen, Arthur and his wife Lois Hansen; two nephews, Mark Hansen and Doug Sangwin.

Visitation was 4:00 P.M. on Sunday, September, 28. There was a rosary at 5:00 P.M. by St. Mary’s Rosary Society and Guild and a vigil prayer service at 7:30 P.M.. all at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton.
