The remains of S. Bennett, one of the early settlers in the vicinity of Matlock, residing on the N. E. Williams farm, but recently of Wessington Springs, SD, were brought to Matlock for interment which took place on Wednesday of last week. Mr. Bennet was ninety four years old at the time of his demise. His daughters Mrs. Thompson and Mrs. Walker, and their husbands, and a granddaughter accompanied the remains her for burial.

Note: From a well documented source on ancestry.com – John Shaw Bennett was born 28 Jan 1826 Antrim Northern Ireland, died 6 Mar 1915 at Wessington Springs, SD but he was brought to Matlock IA for burial next to his wife Nancy Thompson McGiffen 1832-1885. His first marriage was to Mary Orr Blakely 1826-1859. They had one son Martin Blakely Bennett 1857-1948. He married Nancy 13 Jan 1961 at Chicago IL. They had four children William 1863-1933, Letitia 1861957, Eliza Jan 1867=1958 and Willard Henry 1869-1940.
