From the Rock Valley Bee, October 20, 1922:

The 14-months-old baby boy of Mr and Mrs. A. Ten Break who reside six miles southwest of Rock Valley was drowned last week Thursday [Oct. 12] by falling into a tank of water. The mother was with the child just a short time before, but left him alone for a minute or so while she did some work. When she went to look for him she found he had fallen into the tank of water. He was their only child. Funeral services were held at the home Saturday. The bereaved parents have the sympathy of neighbors and friends in their great sorrow.

The 1920 U.S. census, Plato Township [south of Rock Valley] has an entry for Adrian Ten Brook or Ten Braak, age 33, head of household (but no other family members are listed), marital status "un", immigrated 1910, born Holland, a farmer.

His World War I draft registration card shows him as Adrianus Ten Braak, born Jan. 6, 1887, resident of Plato Township.

The Iowa Select Marriages Index 1758-1996 shows Adrianus Ten Braak marrying Marguerita Beyer at Newton, Iowa, 29 Sep 1920. They are probably the child's parents.

The child does not appear in the Sioux County Cemetery Index under any of these or similar surname spellings.
