From the Boyden Reporter, August 31, 1922:

OBITUARY
MRS. GEO. HIRAM HORN

Mrs. George Hiram Horn passed away at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Schafer at Spirit Lake, Iowa on August 24th, 1922. Funeral services were held on Sunday, August 27th with Dr. W. T. McConnell officiating. Interment was made in the Boyden cemetery.

Catherine Jo[nes] was born on October 4th, 1833 in the state of Indiana and died August 24th, 1922, at Spirit Lake, Iowa, being 88 years, 10 months and 20 days of age. She was married to George Hiram Horn in 1854. During [the] Civil War she was left at home with a family of four children, her husband serving in the army four years. In the spring of 1907 they retired from their farm in Poweshiek county, and came to make their home at Boyden. Mr. Horn died March 16th, 1907 leaving her a widow. She had made her home with a daughter, Mrs. John Schafer for the past 12 years.

She leaves to mourn her absence seven children: J. W., J. G., M. L. and G. P. Horn, all of Boyden, Mrs. Schafer, Mrs. Sharp and Mrs. Wm. Ellwood of Glenham, Minn., 32 grandchildren and 50 great grandchildren, besides a host of relatives and friends. She was loved by all who knew her. When a young woman she was converted and united with the M. E. church and was a life long member of that church.

Those from out-of-town who attended are: Mr. and Mrs. J. Schafer, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Schafer, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Sharp, Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Sharp, Mr. and Mrs. Leon Sharp, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Sharp and Mr. and Mrs. John Finch, all of Spirit Lake, Iowa, and Mrs. Wm. Ellwood, of Glenham, Minn.
The Reporter extends its sincere sympathy to the relatives in their hour of sorrow.
