Florence M. Jansen, 82, of Alton, died Tuesday, June 16, 1998 at the Orange City Hospital.

Funeral services were held on Friday, June 19 at 10:30 A.M. at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton. Reverend James Tigges of Alton and Monsignor Nicholas J. Ruba of Remsen officiated. Burial was at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Alton under the direction of the Fisch Funeral Home, Remsen.

Florence was born October 20, 1915 at rural Alton, the daughter of Nic S. and Margaret (Klein) Hansen. She was raised in the Alton area and attended rural school and St. Mary’s Academy, graduating in 1933. She then did domestic work in the area. She moved to Sioux City in 1944 where she entered St. Joseph’s Mercy College of Nursing, graduating in 1947 with a registered nurse degree. In 1947 she began working for Dr. J.M. Krigsten and Dr. Milton Grossman, both of Sioux City. She also attended Briar Cliff College in Sioux City, graduating in 1959 with a Bachelor of Science-Nursing Degree. She moved to Alton in October, 1986 where she had since resided.

Miss Hansen was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Church Guild, St. Mary’s Rosary Society, Our Lady’s Rosary Makers of Louisville, Kentucky, St. Joseph’s Hospital alumni and Briar Cliff College alumni, both of Sioux City, and the American Nurses Association. She enjoyed china painting, quilting, knitting and making rosaries.

Survivors include a sister, Frances Hansen; a brother, Nicholas Hansen and his wife Flora; a sister-in-law, Dolores Hansen, all of Alton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Cordelia in infancy and Luella Henrich; and four brothers, Joseph, Alfred, Everist and Sylvester.
