From the Rock Valley Bee, September 22, 1922:

JACOB HENNINK DIED SATURDAY EVENING

Jacob Hennink, a well-known resident of Rock Valley for many years, passed away at his home in Rock Valley last Saturday evening after a lingering illness of several months. Mr. Hennink was taken sick last March while working in the Rock Valley creamery. He recovered from this attack sufficiently to be able to be up and around for a few weeks, and then he was taken sick again. He was taken to the hospital at Iowa City and everything that medical skill could do was done for him. His sickness developed into tuberculosis for which there was no earthly help.

Mr. Hennink was a man known for his industrious habits and good character. He was kind to his family and was well thought of by all who knew him. For several years he worked at the Rock Valley mill, on one of the dray lines, for the Farmers' Lumber Co., and at the Rock Valley creamery, and he was always faithful in the discharge of his duties.

The subject of this sketch was born in Holland, January 11, 1878, and was forty-four years, one month and five days old. He came to this country when he was sixteen years of age. He lived at Orange City for a while, but later came to Rock Valley. He lived in Montana for a year, but the greater part of his life after coming to this country was spent in Rock Valley.

He was married December 20, 1899 at Orange City. He is survived by his wife, three daughters, Mrs. Anna VandeWeerd, Misses Emma and Marie Hennink, of Rock Valley, and his mother and two brothers, Peter and John Hennink.

Funeral services were held at the First Reformed church in Rock Valley at 2:00 o'clock p.m. Tuesday, and the remains were taken to Valley View Cemetery for burial. The bereaved family have the sympathy of many friends in their sorrow.
