Roger A. Hamilton, 69, of Arnolds Park and formerly of Sheldon and Sioux City, died Monday, April 25, 1994 at Surprise, Arizona. Services were held on Friday, April 29 at 10:30 A.M. at the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon. The Reverend Dr. Bruce Ursin of Sheldon United Methodist Church officiated. Burial was in the East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon with military rites by the American Legion.

Mr. Hamilton was born November 13, 1924 at Sheldon, the son of Archie L. and Pauline (Clemens) Hamilton. He was raised in Sheldon where he graduated from high school in 1942. He then served three years in the Army Air Force, including two years in Europe during the World War II. On September 2, 1946, he married Ann Victoria. He attended Sheldon Junior College and graduated from Morningside College in Sioux City in 1951. He then was a teacher and principal at the Coleridge (Nebraska) High School. While there he took extension classes from the University of Nebraska and served as a Boy Scout Leader. In 1953 the couple moved to Orange City where he taught in the school system for 10 years. During this time he received his MBA from the University of Nebraska in 1963. He was a member of Phi Delta Kappa Honorary Society. He then accepted a position at Morningside College. He studied for his doctoral program at the University of Louisiana at Baton Rouge, and in 1970 was listed in Who’s Who. In 1978 he retired from the teaching profession but continued as a professional piano tuner.

Mr. Hamilton was a member of several services clubs and the Piano Technician’s Guild. He served as president of the Polio Foundation for many years. He was involved with the Cerebral Palsy Organization on the city, state and national level. As a member of the Shrine Club, he served as president of the Hospital Dads and was a hospital representative. He also was responsible for establishing the transportation fund and the burn program.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Susan Hamilton Brown and her husband Mike of Bradenten, Florida, and Sally Hamilton Rewinkel and her husband Darrell of Phoenix, Arizona; a son, Tom Hamilton and his wife Kathy of Lincoln, Nebraska; seven grandchildren; his mother, Pauline Hamilton of Sheldon, and two brothers, Robert Hamilton of Sheldon and Donald Hamilton of Tampa, Florida.

He was preceded in death by his father, Archer Hamilton; and grandparents, A.L. and Satie Clemens.

A memorial has been established in his name with the Shrine Children’s Transportation Fund.
