Alton---Martin Ver Heul died at his home at Orange City on Saturday Feb. 15th after suffering for two months with dropsy. He had reached the ripe old age of 82 years, 8 months and 2 days. He was born in Delft, Netherlands, June 13th 1830. He came to the United States in 1847, with his parents, who located in Patterson, N.J. On November 8th, 1855, at Hackensack, N.J., he was united in marriage to Miss Jane Kloosterman. This union was blessed with twelve children, ten of whom survive. In 1870 the Ver Heuls came to Sioux county and went through all the hardships of pioneering. His wife died on March 18th 1883 and he was married the second time, on Aug. 6th, 1896, to Mrs. De Jager, who survives him. The funeral services were held from the First Reformed church of Orange City on Monday Feb. 17th. The services were conducted by Rev. J. Englesman. The services were largely attended. Interment was made at LeMars on Tuesday. The surviving children are Mrs. S.R. Sipma of Alton, Mrs. C.A. Smith of Yankton, S.D., Mrs. C. Getsgel of Hawarden, Arie Ver Heul of Pella, Mrs. J. Brandt of Sully, Mrs. J. Ellscott of Sully, Mrs. George Mullins of Wolsey, S.D., Mrs. J.M. Nobles of Big Stone, S.D., Kryn Ver Heul of LeMars and Martin Ver Heul of Wilmont, S.D.

Orange City----M. Ver Heul died at his home in the city last Friday night after a long illness. Deceased was eighty-two years of age. He was born in Holland, Netherlands, and at an early age came to this country with his parents and settled in New Jersey. In 1855 he was united in marriage with Miss Jane Kloosterman and in 1856 they moved to Pella. In 1870 the family came to Sioux county. Of the children born to them the following are living: Mrs. S.R. Sipma of Alton, Mrs. Getsel, Hawarden; K. Ver Heul of LeMars, Iowa; Mrs. C.A. Smith of Yankton, Mrs. G. Mullins of Wolsey, S.D., Mrs. J.M. Nobles of Big Stone, and M. Ver Heul of Wilmont South Dakota. In 1896 he was married to Mrs. H. De Jager who with the above named children survives him. The funeral was held last Monday, services being conducted in the First Reformed church by Rev. Englesman. The remains were taken to LeMars and were laid to rest there on Tuesday.
