Mrs. Margaret Muilenburg, age 90, of Orange City, passed away on Saturday, February 25, 2017, at the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.

There will be a funeral service on Wednesday, March 1, at 10:30am, at the First Reformed Church in Maurice. The Rev. Wick Hubers will officiate. Interment will follow the service at the Sherman Township Cemetery near Maurice. Visitation will be after 4:00pm on Tuesday, with the family present from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Margaret Evelyn was born on October 31, 1926, in rural Ireton, the daughter of William and Effie (Feenstra) Van Gelder. She first attended country school and then from the third to the twelveth grade attended the Newkirk School, from which she graduated.

On February 18, 1949, she married Vernon John Muilenburg in Orange City. They farmed at Middleburg until 1964, when they moved to a farm south of Maurice, where she was a homemaker. In 1992, they retired into Maurice and moved to Orange City in 2006. In 2013, they became residents of the Pioneer Memorial Home and moved to the Landsmeer Ridge Retirement Community in 2015, both in Orange City. He passed away on December 7, 2015, in Orange City, after 66 years of marriage.

Mrs. Muilenburg was a member of the First Reformed Church, where she was active in the women’s ministries and taught Sunday school and catechism classes.

Survivors include her son and his wife, Daryl and Donna (Van Holland) Muilenburg; and her daughter and her husband, Faye and Albert Vander Lugt, all of Maurice; six grandchildren and their spouses, Alan and Jill Muilenburg, of Maurice; Sandy and Peter Jenkins, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Lisa and Ben Vos and Carrie and Michael Vander Schaaf, all of Orange City; Kristi and Jason Hargens, of Le Mars; and Amy and Aaron Muth, of Ireton; fifteen great-grandchildren; two brothers and their wives, Wilbert and Clara Van Gelder, of Tuscon, Arizona; and Arnold and Marge Van Gelder, of Orange City; two sisters, Theresa Goslinga, of Orange City; and Carolyn Vande Brake, of Sanborn; two sisters-in-law, Helen Van Gelder, of Sioux Falls; and Marcia Van Gelder, of Edgerton, Minnesota; and many nephews and nieces.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Eugene Rensink; two great-grandchildren, Kaleb Hargens and Abigail Muth; three brothers, Raymond Van Gelder, and his wife, Marjorie; Dick Van Gelder; and Edward Van Gelder; and a brother-in-law, Stewart Goslinga.
