Mrs. Grace Boote, age 92, of Hull, Iowa, passed away on Monday, February 27, 2017, at Sioux Center Health.

There will be a memorial service on Friday, March 3, at 11:00am, at the First Reformed Church in Hull. The Rev. Kevin Yurk will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the Hope Cemetery in Hull. There will be a family prayer service on Friday, at 10:00am, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull.

Visitation will be after 5:00pm on Thursday, March 2, with the family present from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the funeral home.

Grace was born on August 23, 1924, in rural Sioux Center, the daughter of George and Cynthia (Bartels) Meerdink. She was raised at Carmel and Hull. She graduated from Northwestern Junior College in Orange City and taught school in Boyden. Later, she returned to Northwestern and earned her bachelor’s degree.

On May 27, 1947, she married Herman Boote in Hull. They farmed at Hull, where she was a homemaker. In 1983, they retired into Hull. Herman passed away on February 12, 2013, in Sioux Center, after more than 65 years of marriage.

In August of 2014, Grace became a resident of Aspen Heights Assisted Living in Hull. She transferred to the Royale Meadows Care Center in Sioux Center in December of 2015.

She was a member of the First Reformed Church, where she participated in all the women’s activities, as well as teaching Sunday school and catechism classes, singing in the choir, and playing piano and organ for many occasions, including accompanying for choirs and church.

Grace enjoyed reading, counted cross stitching, and crocheting, giving many of those items to family members.

Survivors include her daughter and her husband, Mary and Duane Johnson, of Hull; two sons and their wives, Howard and Ronda Boote, of Lester; and Robert and Carol Boote, of Hull; eight grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren; and a sister, Carol Boote, of Holland, Michigan.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Wilbur, Peter, Robert, and George, Jr., Meerdink; and a sister, Leona Meerdink.
