Peter D. Eulberg, commonly known by everyone as “Blatz”, June 1, 1888. He was the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. John and Margaret (Moos) Eulberg and was 47 years at the time of his death. He received his education in St. Joseph’s Catholic and in the Public schools at Granville. His whole life was spent in Granville until he entered the World War on February 25, 1918, with John Gloden of Hospers. They were stationed at Des Moines. He was later transferred to Camp Custer, Battle Creek, Michigan, a member of the 55th Engineers playing French horn in the 25-piece Band overseas. He returned from France on July 14, 1919.

In his younger days he assisted his father in the saloon business, later making a trip to Mission, Texas, where he spent a year raising vegetables on his father’s land. This was in the year 1913. On his return he learned the painters trade and assisted John Rels as painter and sign painting in the year 1922. He went to Sioux City where he joined the Painters Union and painted there in 1930. He and Mr. Whitteman made brooms at Mitchell, Nebraska. He had made his home in Sioux City since 1922. In 1929 he made a trip with Mr. Whitteman into Colorado and Wyoming, again returning to Sioux City.

He was married to Edith Haynes.

He was taken sick on April 14, 1934 and was taken to the St. Joseph’s Hospital at Sioux City, for the removal of one kidney. He seemed to be getting along fine, but went back to painting too soon and again took sick and had to be taken to the Edward Hines Hospital in Hines, on April 8, 1935, returning again on June 5, 1935, where he received radium treatment. On June 9, 1936, he again was taken to the St. Joseph’s Hospital for an examination and on February 19, 1936, he was taken to the Hines Hospital in Illinois and passed away at that place on March 30 of cancer.

Mr. Eulberg was a fine young man respected and loved by all who knew him because of his friendly and quiet character. His father and mother and a younger sister preceded him in death, his father dying October 13, 1915, and his mother on July 21, 1914: his sister in January, 1893.
