The unexpected death Saturday, February 9th of Joe Eggink, an Alton resident since 1920, was a great shock to his friends and neighbors. He died at the Orange City Hospital following a heart attack at the age of 77 years.

Gerrit Willem Johan Eggink was born at Zntphen, Gelderland, Netherlands, September 1, 1885 and came to this country in 1911, to this vicinity in 1920. He worked on farms and as a laborer in town until compelled by a heart condition to retire from active work. He was a bachelor and had a small but comfortable home on East 10th Street. He was a good neighbor and respected by all.

He joined the Alton Reformed Church in 1925 and services were held there Tuesday, Reverend Ralph Meyer officiating. Burial was in Nassau Township Cemetery.

Pallbearers were John Boer, Bud Aalbers, Gerald Scholten, John Zalme, Walt Pluim and David Palsma.

Three nephews and four nieces all live at Chandler, Minnesota, children of Leonard and Tony Eggink.

Present from a distance at the funeral were Joe Eggink, Mrs. Arie (Catherine) Vander Lugt, Mrs. Jeanette Karssen, Miss Vernice Eggink, Miss Josephine Eggink, all of Chandler.
