MRS. JOHN DOHERTY DIED MONDAY, JULY 10, 1922

Mrs. John Doherty, for many years a resident of Rock Valley and vicinity, died at the Hull hospital at Hull, Monday afternoon, July 10, following an illness of a few weeks. She was taken to the hospital at Hull about two weeks ago where an operation was performed last week, Wednesday. She seemed to improve for a while after the operation but a change for the worse took place and her children were notified and called to her bedside Sunday and on the following day she passed away, in spite of all that medical skill and loving hands could do for her.

Mrs. Doherty was a good kind-hearted woman, and a faithful wife and mother, and she was highly respected and esteemed by all who knew her, as the large attendance at the funeral and the beautiful floral tributes amply testified.

The subject of this sketch was born in the state of New York, Feb. 19, 1856, ad had attained the age of sixty-five years, 7 months, and nine days. Her early life was spent in the community where she was born and there she received her education and grew to womanhood.

Thirty five years age she was united in marriage to John Doherty, and since that time she has been a resident of this vicinity living on a farm northeast of Rock Valley, for several years, and later the family moved into town, where she resided at the time of her death.

Mrs. Doherty is survived by her husband, five sons and two daughters, Ed, John, Mike, Tom and Will, and Josephine and Irene; one step-daughter, Mrs. Mame Walpole, all of Rock Valley and vicinity, and one step son, Frank Doherty. She also leaves four sisters and thee brothers.

Funeral services were held at St. Mary's church in Rock Valley Wednesday forenoon. The services were largely attended by sympathizing relatives and friends.

Among the relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were Mrs. Kaneen, a sister of the deceased, of Kenebeck, S.D., Ed McMullen, a brother, also of Kennebeck; Mr. and Mrs. Dan McMullen, a brother, of Breckenridge, S.D.; Miss Smith and John Smith, cousins of Sioux Falls; Mrs. P. J. Ryan and daughters, of Sioux Falls; Mrs. Tom Gibbs of Bellview, Ia.; Mrs. Colso and Miss Lanagan, Challotte, Iowa and Mrs. Nell Doherty of Marcus, Iowa.
