Mrs. Harry Buma a long time resident of Rock Valley died in her home Friday Jan 12, 1940 at the age of 86 years 2 months and 9 days, following a brief illness.

Mrs. Buma nee Akke Vander Meer was born in Witmarsum Friesland, Holland, November 3, 1853 where she grew to womanhood. She married in Holland. In 1904 she came with her husband and seven children to Wyckhoff New Jersey. A year later the family moved to Hull and later settled on a farm northwest of Rock Valley and moved to town in 1920. In 1925 her husband preceded her in death and since that time she has lived alone.

She is the mother of ten children. Two children dying in infancy, a daughter Hielkje died at the age of 13 in the Netherlands, and her oldest son, Adam, died as the result of an auto accident at Artesia, Oct 17, 1938. Those who survive are Dave, Artesia CA, Fred and Clara, Mrs. Gerrit Van Beek of Rock Valley, Mrs. John Steenhoven of Redlands, CA and Dora Mrs. Gerrit Visser and Sam of Inwood. An aged sister Mrs. H. Vander Weide of Bolsward Friesland also survives.

Funeral Services were held Tuesday January 16, in the Christian Reformed Church here with Rev. H. J. Triesenberg officiating. Burial was made in the local cemetery.

Note: She is listed in the Sioux County Iowa cemetery index as Agnes Buma born 3 Nov 1853 died 12 Jan 1940 on same headstone as Harry, buried in Valley View cemetery at Rock Valley Iowa.
