John Zwiers

Mr. Johannes Zwiers passed away at his home here early Saturday morning, April 13, 1946 at the age of 83 years. He had been ailing for some time due to stomach trouble.
Mr. Zwiers was born in the Netherlands on March 4, 1863. On October 1, 1885 he was married and to this union seven children were born who now mourn his departure with their mother The children are Mrs. Henry Ten Harmsel of Hudsonville, Mich.; Mrs. Dick Calkhoven of Sioux Center, Albert Zwiers of Hawarden, Gerrit Zwiers of Lynden, Wash.; Mrs. Herman Roelofs of Everson, Wash.; Mrs. Tony Van Zanten of Rock Valley; and Mr. Henry Zwiers of Ashton. There are also 22 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters. One of his brothers was buried at Pease, Minn. and the others all passed away in the Netherlands.
Mr. and Mrs. Zwiers farmed northwest of Sioux Center for nine years and then retired and moved into town, having lived here for the past 19 years. Last October 1st they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary and all of their children wore home at that time to help them observe the day.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon, April 16, 1946 at one o'clock at the home and at 1:30 o’clock at the First Christian Ref. Church with. Rev B. J. Haan officiating. Burial took place at the local cemetery and acting as pall bearers were John Vander Stelt, Henry Van Roekel, Jerry Hasselo, Lane Ver Durin, Art Vander Brink and A. Ten Harmsel.
