Franz Gunnink was born on July 16, 1863 and died at Hull, Iowa on February 15, 1940 at the age of 76 years and 7 months.

He was married on December 24, 1885 to Hendrikje De Groot. In 1893 they came to the United States and settled on a farm southeast of Hull. In 1910 they moved to a farm two miles southeast of Hull where they resided since.

To this union nine children were born, three dying in infancy. The living children are Henry of Edgerton, Minnesota; Nellie, Mrs. W.J. Vander Wilt, Hattie, Mrs. John Calsbeek of Hull; John of Lake View, South Dakota; William of Hull and Frank of Rock Valley, Iowa. He is also survived by 24 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Mr. Gunnink has always been active in church and community service. He served as an Elder in the First Reformed Church for nearly forty years and always showed great interest in the welfare of the church. He was elected mayor of the town of Hull in 1922 and served until 1930. He was elected again in 1934 and served until 1936. He was always highly respected and was known as a man of integrity and foresight.

The funeral was held in the First Reformed Church at 1:30 o’clock Monday February 19 with Reverend R.A. Jager and G.H. Douwstra officiating.
