MRS. EVA GREINER

Mrs. Eva Greiner passed away at the home of her son, N. J. Greiner, in Rock Valley, Monday at 1:30 p.m., following an illness of several weeks from tumor of the stomach.

Mrs. Greiner was born at Priest, Province of Trier, Germany, August 14, 1844, and had attained the age of seventy-seven years, eight months and ten days. She received her early training and grew to womanhood in her native land, Germany. At the age of twenty-eight years, she came to this country and settled at Dubuque, Iowa, where she was married. Her husband preceded her in death several years ago. She lived at Dubuque nineteen years. Thirty years ago, she moved to Rock Valley and had resided here continuously since that time.

Mrs. Greiner was the mother of two children, one son, N. J. Greiner, of Rock Valley, and one daughter, Barbara, who died at the age of two years.

Mrs. Greiner was a good woman, and was well thought of. She was a woman who worked hard, and her first thoughts were for the comfort of those she loved. Her only immediate relatives left are her son, N. J. Greiner, and family, who have the sympathy of friends in their bereavement.

Funeral services were held from St. Mary's church in Rock Valley Wednesday forenoon, conducted by Rev. Father Rooder of Alvord, Rev. Father O'Rielly being out of town at the time. The remains were taken to Dubuque Wednesday afternoon for burial. Mr. and Mrs. N. J. Greiner accompanied the remains.

Mrs. Eva Greiner, mother of our worthy townsman N. J. Greiner and an esteemed pioneer resident of Rock Valley departed this life at the home of her son in Rock Valley Monday afternoon at 1:30 after a lingering illness of several months duration due to carcinoma of the stomach.

The subject of this sketch was a native of Prest Germany, where she grew to womanhood and at the time of her death was in the 77 year of her age. She migrated to America in 1873 and located at Dubuque. On November 30, 1873, she was married to John Greiner and as a result of this union two children were born, the little girl dying at the age of 2 years. Her son N. J. Greiner of Rock Valley surviving her. After the death of her husband she came to Rock Valley in 1892, where she has resided till her death.

Mrs. Greiner was an industrious and an indefatigable worker and was a lover of out door life. She was a familiar figure to many of the housewives of Rock Valley as she disposed to them the products of her incessant toll and her daily visits will be missed by them in the days to come. She was affable in manner; kind in disposition and cheerful in attitude which won her many friends. She was a devout member of the Catholic Church and died in that faith. Her departure from this life was like a golden sunset without a cloud to dim its luster. Peaceably she lived in great peace she passed to those blissful regions of immortality.

Funeral services occurred Wednesday morning at St. Mary’s church conducted by Rev. Father J. A. Roder of Alvord in the presence of neighbors and friends. Her remains were taken to Dubuque for burial by the side of her husband, accompanied by her son N. J. Greiner and wife. The family have the sympathy of their friends in the loss they have sustained.
