DEATH OF MRS. STUDER

Mrs. Christena Studer, wife of Fred Studer, died at her home in Rock Valley Sunday, April 23, after a lingering illness of many months, the immediate cause of her death being pneumonia.

The subject of this sketch was born at Sandusky, Ohio, March 18, 1859, and at the time of her death was sixty-three years, one month and five days old. When she was twelve years old, her parents moved to Elkader, Iowa, where she grew to womanhood, and there was united in marriage to Fred Studer, August 13, 1877. They located at Sandusky, Ohio, where they resided eleven years, and from there moved to Edgewood, Indiana, where they spent one year. In September, 1893, they returned to Iowa and located at Rock Valley. Mrs. Studer continued to live here until the time of her death.

Mrs. Studer was the mother of eight children, five boys and three girls, three children died in infancy and five survive. They are Lewis, of Lower Bruel, S. Dak.; John, of Rice Lake, Minn.; Mrs. J. D. Green, of Minneapolis; Mrs. J. D. Newhouse, of Sioux City; and Fred, of Rock Valley. Besides her husband and children, she leaves two brothers and two sisters living at Sandusky, Ohio, and one brother at Memphis, Tenn.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Methodist church in Rock Valley, the services being conducted by Dr. H. K. Hastings. The deceased was a woman of kind and loving disposition and will be greatly missed by her husband and children.

From the Alton Democrat, April 2, 1922, Rock Valley news:

Mrs. Fred Studer Sr. (nee Christina Hall) who has been a patient sufferer with dropsy for a year or more which developed into pneumonia terminated in death Sunday morning, April 23 at her home in Rock Valley. The deceased was born March 18th 1859 at Sandusky, Ohio, and at the time of her demise she was 63 years 1 month and 5 days old, where she grew to womanhood. She was married to Fred Studer Aug. 13th 1877 at Elkader, Iowa. After their marriage they went to Sandusky where they resided for a period of 11 years and from there they moved to Elwood, Ind., where they remained one year and in the fall of 1893 they came to Rock Valley and located on a farm and later moved to town where she has continuously resided.

She was the mother of five boys and three girls, three of which died in infancy. The children living are Lewis, Lower Brule, S.D., John C., Rice Lake, Minn., Mrs. Celia Green, Minneapolis, Mrs. Amy Newhouse, Sioux City and Fred, Rock Valley. All were present to pay their respects to a departed mother.

For many years her hearing was impaired and in spite of this inconvenience and sore affliction she was patient and cheerful never murmuring or complaining. She was a Christian woman, a faithful companion and mother. She leaves a husband and children, two sisters and one brother living at Sandusky and one brother at Memphis Tenn. to mourn her passing. She is now mingling in happy society in a genial and stormless clime, she has found a home, "Far from this world of strife, she is present with the Lord."

Funeral services occurred Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Methodist church conducted by Dr. H. K. Hastings after which interment occurred in Valley View Cemetery. The bereaved have the sympathy of their many friends in their hour of sorrow.
