From the Sioux County Index, August 22, 1924:

OBITUARY

Louis James Boggess was born May 2nd, 1869 at Elma, Iowa, and died August 13th at his home in Hull, Iowa being fifty-five years, three months and eleven days old.

When yet a very small boy he came with his parents to Hull, Iowa, where the family resided for a number of years. They then moved to Rock Valley where he grew to manhood, and where he worked at his profession as carpenter. In 1898 he was united in marriage to Miss Lena Albertus at Sioux Center, at which place they conducted the hotel for many years. From the time of leaving Sioux Center until the time of Mrs. Boggess' death, some two years ago, he conducted hotels in Larchwood, Inwood, and Hull, and he was known far and near as a good hotel man. He had been a great sufferer from asthma, for a number of years and that and heart trouble was the cause of his death. He was only bedfast seventeen days, and was planning a trip to the west as soon as he got stronger in hopes of getting relief.

Funeral services were conducted in the large dining room at the Lincoln Hotel, Friday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock, by Rev. W. C. Bergman of the Methodist Church, after which the remains were taken to Alvord and placed in the cemetery there beside those of his wife. The business houses of Hull were all closed during the hour of services.

He leaves to mourn his loss, one brother and five sisters, Warren J. Boggess, Mrs. Chas. Ballard and Mrs. W. J. Snyder of Long Beach, Calif., Mrs. Hatch of Chicago, and Mrs. J. V. Schemmer and Mrs. W. P. Page of Alvord.
