Mac Graff Rites Held on Monday at St. Joseph's

Dies Sunday at Fort Worth, Texas; body returned here for funeral.

The family of Magnus "Mac" Graff was shocked and saddened Thursday afternoon when a telephone message from Fort Worth, Texas told of his death the previous Sunday, September 11, of Mr. Graff in that city. Mr. Graff had gone to Fort Worth recently for a two week vacation in hope that the climate might improve his health. He had talked by phone to his family in Milford Saturday evening before his death. Cause of death is unknown, and the only detail which the family has to date is that he died suddenly, while in an ambulance enroute to a hospital. A.A. Leyson and Stanley Fuller flew to Fort Worth and returned the body here.

Funeral services and Requiem High Mass were conducted by Father James Greteman from St. Joseph's Church, Monday morning, September 19. Father Skahill of Spirit Lake served as Deacon and Father Kinney of the LaSalette Seminary as Sub Deacon. Interment was made in St. Anthony's Cemetery at Hospers, where Father Thoenessen conducted graveside services. Casket bearers were Ron Kelley, John Marchand, Francis Froelich, William Schwaller, Bill Berning and Ralph Doud.

Magnus Theodore Graff, the son of John and Catherine (Bunker) Graff, was born April 20, 1911, at Granville, Iowa and died Sunday September 11, 1949, at the age of 38 years. He was graduated from St. Joseph's parochial school at Granville, and on December 28, 1938, was married to Irene Jungers of Hospers. They became the parents of three sons, Russell 9, Lyle 8, and Ricky 5. In 1943 Mr. and Mrs. Graff and sons moved to a farm near Spirit Lake, and in 1946 to a farm near Milford. Last fall the family constructed a new home across from St. Joseph's Church in Milford, and moved to town. The deceased was a member of St. Joseph Church. Mr. Graff owned and operated a tap room in Milford at the time of his death.

His mother and father, John and Catherine and one sister preceded him in death. Survivors besides the widow and sons include three brothers, Otto of Milford, J.H. of Lake Park, and Milo of Granville; and five sisters, Mrs. James Jacobs, Mrs. A. J. Miller and Mrs. Bert Ballard, all of Granville, Mrs. Ray Schilmoeller of Algona and Mrs. Bob Hassman of Camp Warner Robbins, Georgia.

A large number of relatives and friends from a distance attended the funeral services here.
