Funeral of W. A. Brest Sunday
Passed away at Vermillion Last Thursday morning.
Was a resident of this community for twenty five years – leaves wife and eight children.
The funeral of W. A. Brest, mention of whose death was made in The Independent last week, was held at the Methodist church in this city Sunday afternoon with Rev. W. A. WinterStein, pastor of the church, in charge. Interment was made in Grace Hill cemetery.

William Alfred Brest was born in Mercer county, Pa., Dec. 14, 1845, and passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. A. T. Torstenson at Vermillion, S. D., August 28, 1924, and so was 78 years, 8 months and 14 days old at the time of his death. He grew to manhood in Pennsylvania and he received his education in the Mercer county schools of that state. In 1864 he moved west to Lewis county, Mo., where he spent the following 35 years teaching. In 1870 he was united in marriage with Lovey Stockley. Three children were born to this union, two of whom preceded him in death. His wife, Lovey, passed away in 1880. In 1883 we was married to Mary J. Green and this union was blessed with eight children, six of whom survive him. In 1899 he moved with his family to Sioux county where he was engaged in farming until the past few years when he was obliged to give up farming because of his ill health. He united with the Methodist church in early manhood. He was a kind and loving father and husband.

He leaves to mourn his death his wife and eight children, Claude W Brest of San Diego, Calif., Mrs. A. T. Torstenson of Vermillion, S.D., Morris and Mario Brest of Hobson, Mont. Mrs. E. H, Jacobe and Clarence and Vera Brest of Hawarden. Besides he leaves one sister, Mrs. Mollie Simpson of Bozeman, Mont., one brother, David R. Brest of Sapulpa, Okla., and a number of other relatives and a host of friends.
