Mrs. Arthur Braun, nee Bertha Nieland, passed on in her sleep Friday, Oct. 3, at the age of 55 years. Although she had not been in good health for several months, Mrs. Braun was about the house and had attended church the previous Sunday. Her sudden passing was a sad shock to her family and legion of friends.

She was born April 28, 1897 at Breda. Iowa, one of a family of 12 children. She attended the Breda school and was a graduate of St. Anthony's College of Nursing. She was married Jan. 20, 1925 to Arthur Braun at Breda, and the couple began farming in the Le Mars vicinity, where they lived forfive years. In 1929 they moved to their present home south of Alton.

She is survived by her husband and six children: Leo Braun of Granville: Rose Mary, Mrs. Cyril Ortmann of Le Mars; Kathleen, Mrs. Milton Delperdang and Marggaret, Mrs. Gilbert Schreier, both of Marcus; Arthur Braun Jr. and Thomas Braun; by six brothers and five sisters, namelv: Mrs. Ferd Steinkamp, Frank. Joe, Louis. Ben. Herman Nieland of Breda; Will Nieland of Carroll; Mrs. Jake Wittry Breda; Mrs. Margaret Muggenburg of Okarche, Okla.; Sr. Mary Florina of LaCrosse Wis. and Sr. Mary Sigmunda of Durant, Wis.

Mrs. Braun was a member of St. Mary's Rosary society, devoted to her family and church, a kind mother, a good and gracious neighbor—a friend to many. Funeral services were held Monday morning, Oct. 6 at 9:30 in St. Mary's Catholic church, with interment in the parish cemetery.

Pallbearers were Mike Zenk, John J. Schmidt, Peter Schneider, Ed Schlichte, Nick Fath and Joe Friedmann. Dinner was served at noon in the parish hall by the Rosary society to the many out of town relatives present and members of the family. Okla.; Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Wittry. Louis Nieland. Herman Nieland. Ben Nieland. all of Breda: Mr. and Mrs. Will Nieland of Carroll: Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Funk of Sibley; Mr. and Mrs. Mike White. Spencer; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Voss. Mrs. Joe Voss, Okarche, Okla.; Mrs. Alois Vonnahme. Mrs. Wm. Reineke, Mrs. Max Reising and Conrad, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Schettler, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Buelt, Mrs. Herman Grate, all of Breda: Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Nipland. Walter Nieland, Herman Haoknort.
