Emil Gloden passed away December 20th in the Fe Bey Hospital at Orange City after several years illness. Funeral services were held Friday morning from St. Anthony’s Church, with Reverend J. Thoennissen in charge. Burial was made in St. Anthony’s Cemetery.

Mr. Golden was born March 4, 1870, in Luxemberg and reached the age of 73 years. He was united in marriage to Miss Mary Masuen at Le Mars in 1891 and the young couple set up housekeeping near Alton, later moving near Granville. In 1920 the family moved to a farm a mile south of Hospers where they resided until after Mrs. Gloden’s death in 1931. After her death, Mr. Gloden lived with his daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Clem Schmidt and family.

Eleven children were born to this union. One daughter Mary, passing away in infancy. The ten remaining children are Mrs. Margaret Glesener of Cheyenne, Wyoming, John of Hospers, Mrs. Josephine Reuter of here, (Cecelia), Mrs. Leo Reistoffer of Granville, (Kathryn) Mrs. Matt Schmidt and (Mathilda) Mrs. Clem Schmidt, both of Hospers, S/Sgt Alphonse Gloden of Deming, New Mexico, Frank of Yorkville, Illinois, (Susan) Mrs. Gilbert Walgenbach of Davis, California and Lawrence somewhere over seas.

He is also survived by 27 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and a brother living in Lansing, Michigan. He was a member of St. Anthony’s Church, of the Holy Name Society and an active member of the Luxemberg Brotherhood of America.

Pallbearers were his grandsons: Joseph Reuter, Donald Gloden, Vernon Reistofer, Harold, Maral, and Reginald Schmidt.
