HENRY GOEBEL, WELL KNOWN GRANVILLE CITIZEN, PASSES ON

Henry Goebel, 65, for many years a resident of the Granville vicinity, died at his home there at 8:15 Monday morning. Although in ill health for some years, he continued active and his sudden passing was a shock to his family and many friends.

Saturday he made a trip to Worthington accompanied by his sister Anna and two nieces, Vivian and Mary Estelle Goebel. On the return trip his nephew Firmin Goebel, who had driven a tractor to Worthington, drove all the way home relieving his uncle who was taken very ill before reaching home Saturday evening. Medical aid was at once summoned and he appeared to be holding his own until stricken Monday morning.

He was born April 10, 1883 at Luxemburg, Iowa and came to this county when a small boy with his parents. Kenny and Catherine Goebel , who settled south of Granville, later moving to a farm north of Granville. After the death of his parents he farmed with his sisters, Anna and Mathilda. In 1945 the three moved to Granville after purchasing the beautiful Ed Luken home.

He was the next youngest member of a family of nine, three boys and six girls of whom the following survive him; one brother, John Goebel of Granville and four sisters, Anna, Mathilda, Mrs. J.D. Klein, Mrs. Martha Wernke. A brother, Ernest of Luxemburg died April 3 of this year and two older sisters, Mrs. Henry Kokenge and Mrs. Henry Schnee, many years ago while he was a young boy.

Funeral services will be held this Thursday morning in St. Joseph’s Church at Granville at nine o’clock.

Mr. Goebel was a man of sterling character, always a hard worker, a kind neighbor and devoted well liked by all who knew him. He will be greatly missed by his many friends around Granville, who extend sympathy to the family especially the two bereaved sisters.
